Metal Oxide Varistors MOVs
![]()
The DSX-12/24 Volt MOVs (Metal Oxide Varistors) are surge protection devices that must be used on
all solenoid or coil driven devices controlled by relays on DSX Controllers.
These non-polarized MOVs must be used with
all solenoid driven devices. This includes all door strikes, pin-bolt locks,
large relays, gate operators, and all security Magnetic Locks.
An MOV must be installed directly across the power input to the Lock or
relay physically at the lock or relay.
The 12V MOV is used for all 12 VDC door strikes, maglocks,
gate operators, and relays. It will withstand a continuous maximum voltage of
22 VDC or 17 VAC and will activate between 24 and 30 Volts.
The 24V MOV is used for all 24 VDC door strikes, maglocks,
gate operators, and relays. It will withstand a continuous maximum voltage of
31 VDC or 25 VAC and will activate between 35 and 43 Volts.
These MOVs can be purchased from DSX in
quantities of 100 each or may be purchased from your local electronics
supplier.
The Digi-Key and Panasonic Part numbers are
listed below for the 12V and 24V MOVs that DSX
recommends.
* 12V MOV/P7284-ND(Digi-Key) ERZ-V05D270(Panasonic)
* 24V MOV/P7286-ND(Digi-Key) ERZ-V05D390(Panasonic)
* These two non-polarized MOVs are the components
that DSX has tested and found to work best for most applications. It is
recommended that these units be installed even if they are not purchased from
DSX.
